September 2021

Amalgam

Hello!

Thank you for signing up to the Amalgam mailing list! We aim to keep you updated with timely newsletters throughout the next year in the run up to Amalgam and give you the opportunity to shape what we hope will be the largest SSAGO event ever.

A few weeks ago the Amalgam committee met in person for the first time! What better place to meet than Paccar Scout Campsite, Buckinghamshire – our handpicked site for Amalgam 2022. We are really happy with our campsite choice and thought we would share some of the highlights in our first newsletter!

Come Join Us!

Amalgam will be held from Friday 9th September to Sunday 11th September 2022 at Paccar Campsite, Buckinghamshire. It is open to current and past members of SSAGO and SAGGA to come together and celebrate the wonderful organisation that SSAGO is.

Put the date in your diary now! Its not going to be one to miss!

Catering Lead Wanted!

We want Amalgam to be shaped by SSAGO and SSAGOers past so if you’ve got an idea or want to help let us know - there will be opportunities of all shapes and sizes up for grabs! Right now we are looking for a Catering Lead.

Our Catering Lead will play a pivotal role in designing, planning and executing our Amalgam menu and lead their team to provide scrummy food for all. We intend on recruiting an assistant catering lead as well so that our hard working staff also have the opportunity to enjoy Amalgam like the rest of us. If this sounds like it’s up your street, send us an email at amalgam@ssago.org to let us know who you are, why you’d like to be our catering lead and what experience you have.

Maybe you already have a group of friends who love to cook – if this is the case let us know in the email and we are certainly open to suggestions of a group taking on the catering together.

Our Site

Why are we so convinced by our site? Well, first up we have acres of space! With exclusive access to two massive fields, plus 5 different indoor areas, there’s no shortage of space for everything we want to put on for you. There is a real potential for lots of exciting activities onsite, as well as a variety of offsite choices too, so keep your eyes peeled for more information about them very soon.

And getting there? Easy! Given the geographical spread of our committee we have travelled from the North, South, East and London, via train and car, and we all arrived without a hitch (ok, Josh might have got stuck in traffic, but he probably should have checked the traffic before setting off).

Once you arrive on site there is plenty of space for parking and the camping field is right next door. Given that we have so much space, we will be splitting our camping areas to allow everyone to enjoy camping as they like it, whether that’s a quiet camping area, family camping area or an ‘I don’t plan on going to bed before midnight’ camping area for all of you who intend to party your way through Amalgam.

Camping not for you? That’s quite alright too, with almost 100 indoor beds available, including accessible bedrooms and toilets, we have an offering for everyone and plan to split this up just like our camping areas. It’s also worth mentioning that there are paved paths between all major areas of the campsite which, unless the British weather is really against us, will provide mud free access around the site.

And for those who just have to stay connected, the site has good 4G signal and phone charging stations! A public Wi-Fi network is also available for those who don’t have any data but need to access the internet.
